The Snow Queen
The critically acclaimed ballet returns
It will be a joyful reunion with The Snow Queen when Tivoli opens its doors to this year’s grand Christmas show at The Tivoli Concert Hall from November 27th.
The Snow Queen is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s world-famous fairy tale from 1845. It’s a gripping story for both children and adults about Kay and Gerda, who are best friends, but their friendship is put to the test when the Devil’s mirror shatters into a thousand pieces and Kay is struck by a shard from the magical mirror. He is now drawn toward the beautiful but icy Snow Queen and her castle.
With the Snow Queen’s first kiss, Kay’s heart freezes to ice, and with the second, he forgets all about Gerda. When Kay disappears, Gerda decides to set out on a long and dangerous journey to find him. Her journey takes her through enchanting gardens, to the lavish palace of a prince and princess, and Gerda is held captive in the robbers’ harsh realm and faces difficult choices before she finally reaches the Snow Queen’s castle.
The Snow Queen is a magical, musical, and critically acclaimed family ballet and a heartwarming tale of friendship and courage. The performance features 35 ballet dancers, as well as ballet students from The Tivoli Ballet School and musicians from Tivoli Copenhagen Phil.
The key creative forces behind The Snow Queen are Oh Land, who composed the music; Yuri Possokhov, who created the choreography; and Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, who designed the set and costumes.
The Snow Queen is supported by the Augustinus Foundation.
A ticket to the performance also includes admission to Christmas in Tivoli.
The ballet is non-verbal and is therefore recommended for international guests.
