Class Overview and Admission

Instruction at the right level

We prioritise individualised instruction, ensuring that class placement and teaching are aligned with each student’s unique needs and ballet technical abilities. To achieve this, we offer level-based classes for optimal learning.

We continuously monitor student progress throughout the season, and advancement to a higher level is possible based on individual ballet development. At the conclusion of each season, we provide level recommendations for the following season.

Contact the ballet school at balletskolen@tivoli.dk so we can assess together which class and level is the best fit for you.

Tivoli Ballet School also offers classes that are not level-based.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet is designed for our youngest students, aged 5 to 8. Through motor skills development, musical training, and playful activities, students are prepared for admission to Level 1.

The classes are divided into Micro, Mini, Macro, and Maxi.

Levels 1-5

Level 1
Level 1 is suitable for students from 9 years old. The students progress from motor coordination to building the fundamental elements of barre work.

Level 2
Intensity increases with a focus on coordination, strength, and flexibility, along with an introduction to adagio, pirouettes, and jumps.

Level 3
All basic barre elements are mastered, and the focus shifts to increasing tempo and complexity.

Level 4
All barre elements are incorporated into various combinations and speeds.

Level 4-5
Technique is further strengthened to prepare students for classical repertoire.

Level 5
The classical Bournonville style is explored through Bournonville schools and repertoire.

Pointe

To prevent injuries and ensure the continuous development of students’ pointe technique, pointe classes are reserved for students who train at least twice a week in other level-based classes.

Pointe classes are offered only to students from Level 3 and above, and admission is granted after consultation with the ballet school’s management.

Boys' Class

If you are between 11 and 17 years old and have a good understanding of male ballet technique, you can join an all-boys class that focuses on strength, coordination, and turns.

Contemporary

In contemporary dance, we explore the body’s movement possibilities and strengthen body awareness through technique, improvisation, and choreography.

This class is for intermediate or advanced dancers from 13 years old and above.

Intensive

This is aimed at students from Level 3-4 and above who wish to immerse themselves in the beautiful and technically challenging world of ballet.

Admission to these classes requires a certain amount of weekly training, as well as physical and mental preparedness.

Dance for Parkinson's

David Leventhal, founder of “Dance for PD”, has proven that dance can improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease. Participants explore movement and music in a fun and stimulating way. The class works on coordination, balance, memory, and flexibility using elements from modern dance, tap dance, ballet, social dance, folkdance, and more.

The classes are led by professional ballet dancers from Tivoli Gardens’ own ballet company, Tivoli Ballet Theatre, who are trained in the “Dance for PD” program.
